Artù, Beagle with aural haematoma

SPECIES: Dog
BREED: Beagle
GENDER: M
AGE: 4 years
NAME: Artù

Description

The patient was examined for swelling of the auricle of his left ear, consistent with an aural haematoma.

Therapy

  • Surgical treatment with a longitudinal incision along the auricle and stitches
  • Bandage changed every 2-3 days
  • Antibiotic therapy with amoxicillin + clavulanic acid for 10 days

Follow-up

Two weeks after surgery, the wound showed delayed healing. The animal also showed discomfort, with constant shaking and the appearance of additional scratching lesions on the contralateral auricle
In light of the new findings, MLS® Laser Therapy was chosen

Protocol

  • MLS® Laser Therapy with M-VET, “contaminated wound” program, two sessions three days apart, point-to-point treatment on the surgical wound and on all scratching lesions
  • No further topical or systemic therapies were used

Result

  • After the first session, the owner reported the disappearance of itching and the improvement of the edges and base of the wounds
  • Bandage removal after the first session
  • Complete healing of wounds after the second MLS® Laser Therapy session
